Your Woven Navajo Rugs Require Special Care
Summit Cleaning Services provides expert cleaning and care for hand woven rugs, including Durrie and Navajo rugs and blankets. These fine and often rare rugs present a number of cleaning challenges, not the least of which is dye migration, or "bleeding".
These rugs are normally comprised of wool fibers, but often cotton or combined fibers do occur. But, major problem with Durrie and Navajo rug cleaning is that dye sources vary greatly, including unstable vegetable dyes. Because the dyes used in these beautiful rugs can vary, dye testing and stabilization is a vital for successful results and to minimize the chances of damaging your valuable rugs.
Even with taking the proper steps and precautions, however, there always exists the chance for permanent bleed damage to occur. For this reason, Summit Cleaning Services will provide you with a written explanation of these risks, so you understand the complexities of your fine woven rugs. We will provide you with a release of liability form when we inspect your Navajo and Durrie style woven rugs prior to cleaning.
We want to make you smile by providing you with the most outstanding service experience ever. That is why we take such care and precautions to protect you and your beautiful rugs.

How to Care for your Area Rugs • Rotation - To ensure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.
• Vacuuming - Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar. Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum. • Padding - A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage. |
Spot and Spill Procedures • Make sure that you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set. • First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting with a clean absorbent material. Do not brush or rub the stain. • Then spot clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do not over wet. • Rinse area thoroughly with a mixture of 6 parts water to one part white distilled vinegar. Avoid wetting the rug's backing. • Blot dry until most of the moisture has been absorbed. • Allow to air dry. A fan or cool hair dryer can be used to hasten the drying process. • For stains that do not come out using these methods, ask our cleaning specialists |
